Child Safety Policy

The short version. Your child's photo is used only to create their illustrated character, then deleted. Your child's book is private to you. We never use a customer's child in our advertising. Children who appear in our ads do so only with their parent's written consent, by first name only. If anything worries you, email hello@magikast.com and a real person will reply within 1 business day.

Our site is for adults

• Magikast is made for parents, family members and other adults buying a book for a child. Children shouldn't use the site, create an account or place an order.
• We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Everything we know about a child comes from the adult making the book. If you believe a child has given us information directly, email us and we'll delete it.
• Please only upload a photo of a child you're the parent or guardian of, or with their parent or guardian's permission.

Your child's photo

• Used for one thing: creating the illustrated character that appears in your child's book.
• Kept private: while the character is made, the photo is held in private, access-controlled storage.
• Not used for AI training: the photo is processed by Google Cloud's Vertex AI service. Under Google Cloud's terms, Google doesn't use it to train its AI models.
• Deleted fast: we delete the photo as soon as the character exists, usually within minutes. If you stop partway, or a deletion ever fails, an automatic clean-up removes it within 24 hours in every case.
• Never used to identify anyone: we don't use the photo or the character to recognize or identify anyone, and never in our advertising.

Your child's book

• Once the photo is deleted, everything is made from the illustrated character. The pages are created by placing the character into our illustrators' artwork.
• Your preview and your book are private. We don't publish them, there are no public profiles or galleries, and they can only be opened through the private links we send you.
• A person on our team checks every book before it's printed.
• We keep the character and the book pages so we can make your book, reprint it if anything goes wrong and keep your ebook available. You can ask us to delete them at any time.

Stories made for ages 4 to 8

• Every story is written by a person for children aged 4 to 8, and illustrated by real illustrators.
• The story itself never changes. The only things that are personal to your child are their character, their first name and your dedication message.

Children in our marketing

• We never use a customer's child's photo, character or name in our advertising.
• Children who appear in our ads and social posts are there because their parent or guardian agreed to it in writing.
• First names only. We never publish a child's surname, school or location.
• We don't use AI or editing to change a real child's face or body, or to make new images or video of them.
• We moderate comments on our ads and posts, and remove anything inappropriate about a child.
• A parent can ask us to stop using content of their child at any time, and we'll stop running it within 14 days.

Report a concern

If something worries you about a child's safety or privacy, in our books, on our site or in our ads, email hello@magikast.com with "Child safety" in the subject line. A real person reads every message and replies within 1 business day. If your concern is about something we've published, we'll take it down while we look into it.
